Join a project channel

Open a project's channel in Messaging, start a tagged conversation, and reply in threads.

AvailableLast reviewed 2026-10-05

Every project has a channel in Messaging where conversations stay next to the work.

What you need

Steps

  1. Open Messaging. Use the Open in Messaging link on an assistant result card, or open Messaging from your workspace.
  2. Pick a project. In the sidebar, under Projects, select a project you belong to. Use Filter channels... to search.
  3. Start a conversation. Choose the + button (Start a new conversation). In New Conversation, choose a Conversation Type, enter a Subject / Topic, optionally add a body, and send.
  4. Reply. Select a conversation to open its thread and write in Reply to thread…. Press Cmd or Ctrl plus Enter to send.

Expected result

Your conversation appears in the channel with its tag, and replies group under it as a thread.

Tips

  • All Unread and Mentions at the top of the sidebar collect what you have not read. Use @ to mention a teammate.
  • Project channels list tagged conversation starters, and replies stay in threads. Filter them with Filter by Tag. See Tag decisions, status reports, and risks.
  • Direct Messages are for one-to-one or group chats and have a message box at the bottom.

Troubleshooting

  • My project is not listed: you may not be on it, or you are in a different workspace.
  • I cannot find a message box in a project channel: project channels use the + button to start a conversation. Write replies inside a thread.
